Job Description
Full-time Youth Pastor

The full-time Youth Pastor is to provide spiritual leadership for the youth of our church ranging from grades 6-12 by guiding and nurturing them to mature in their walk with Jesus. 

Our church, located in Deerfield, a northern suburb of Chicago, is a multi-ethnic, non-denominational church of about 200 members with two services, one conducted in Mandarin and the other in English. 

We are seeking a candidate who has a strong Biblical background, the ability to teach Biblical truths effectively, relational skills to connect with today’s youth and their unique challenges, and sensitivity to our multi-cultural values.  This candidate must demonstrate a calling for youth ministries and have a long-term commitment for our youths’ ongoing spiritual, emotional, and intellectual development as young believers.  A college degree is required and formal biblical training, cross cultural understanding and prior youth ministry experience are preferred. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Teaching/Training

  • Teach Biblical truths at weekly youth group meetings in creative ways
  • Oversee Junior High and High School Sunday School classes and develop and implement curriculum
  • Recruit and train lay youth volunteers/counselors
  • Offer leadership training for youth leaders
  • Train youth to serve in various ministries of the church (worship, class assistants, service, VBS, etc)
  • Model and teach youth on how to love and share their faith with others 

Relational

  • Disciple youth by building strong relationships within their own environment
  • Encourage and equip parents in their role as spiritual leaders over their children.      
  • Partner with church staff – pastors and Christian education  coordinator 

Programs

  • Coordinate and lead weekly youth group meetings (grades 6-12)
  • Work strategically to reach out to unchurched youth in area
  • Organize youth retreats and special events
  • Organize and train youth for short-term missions
  • Oversee transition of youth from primary programs to junior high/high school and from high school to young adult
  • Work with other area youth ministries if it is beneficial to youth
  • Active participation in church events and leadership meetings 

Other responsibilities include fulfilling congregation pulpit duties as necessary. 

Competitive salary is dependent on training/experience.
